SOCIETY 805 @ FASHION WEEK LOS ANGELES SPRING SUMMER 2011

NO PLAN EVER GOES ACCORDING TO THE PLAN I have been looking forward to fashion week for a few weeks now, looking forward to getting away from my everyday life for a few days and have my Sex in the City little adventure. THE PLAN
  • leave town early to beat the LA traffic
  • check into hotel
  • sit by the pool & eat light meal (we are experiencing a heat wave)
  • get dress and look fabulous
  • arrived at Sue Wong's event (first event)
  • view the latest collection, mix & mingle & network
  • arrive at Sachika Runway show (2nd event)
  • view show
  • mix & mingle, and network
  • meet friends in K-Town
WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPEN We left later than planned and we decided to take separate cars. Elizabeth(Miss Lady E), who is our amazing photographer left twenty minutes before me who happens to live about 30 mins away from me in the opposite direction and further from LA and manage to beat me to the hotel in Pasadena. Traffic was a little bit nightmarish. She waited patiently in the parking lot watching a movie in her car. Okay I finally arrived, a little frazzle because the hotel was further than I expected, more than 3 miles which was totally unacceptable. No problem, I will just cancelled the reservation, right.......wrong. The reservation can't be cancelled after 4:00 and it was about 6:00, did I let that stop me, of course not I canceled it after about 45 minutes of them contacting their corporate office, something about they can't do it on their end, it has to be done on the corporate side. Went back to my car and thanks to my iPad and priceline.com did manage to book a 4 star accommodation at the Westin Pasadena which is the area I wanted originally.

We were on the road by 8:45 looking fabulous and of course we were late because of the hotel fiasco, I decide it would be better to go see the Sachika runway show first and leave immediately after that. The show ran over an hour behind schedule and can I say the venue was hot and I am not talking about the decor, there was no working air conditioning in this building it was a sauna, thankfully both Elizabeth and I wore dresses.

ALANA HALE of LOS ANGELES Fashion Show

Blast from the Past- Alana Hale will be presenting a runway show at Fashion Week 2011 for Concept at Ace Gallery Los Angeles - Click here for details

by Presley Rosen.
Up and coming LA designer Alana Hale recently debuted her Holiday 2010 line in a quaint courtyard outside of Melrose boutique La Maison de Fashion.  Her line consists of feminine yet edgy pieces that appear to highlight the best of both worlds.  By incorporating show-stopping adornments into delicate pieces, and by mixing strong materials like leather with soft fabrics such as silk chiffon, Miss Hale has found a middle ground that will leave lovers of all fashion styles absolutely speechless. Many of the runway outfits featured neutral tones rightfully named champagne, taupe, camel, smoke, black and metallic.
I attended this event and had the opportunity to speak with Alana after the show.  Some of my favorite pieces from the show were the Sophia Dress and the Madison Dress, both made with feather appliquéd silk to create unusual yet beautiful outfits that would turn heads.  Another great look featured her Juliette Jacket, made of Lambskin leather and ornamented with soft flowers, paired with her cotton Lady T and Hollywood Leather Shorts.  This look is perfect for day or night!  Other pieces that particularly stood out were the Bella Mini Skirt in gold, the angelic Elizabeth Dress, the sexy black Lola Pant made with Lambskin leather, and the sultry, deep burgundy Croc Dress designed in embossed leather.
Overall the show was dramatically unforgettable!

When I asked Alana what her inspiration for the Holiday line was, she said she created the collection to resemble “if Michael Jackson were to meet Old Hollywood Glamour”.  This combination could be seen throughout the show, specifically in Alana’s personal favorite outfit, the burgundy Croc Dress matched with the sparkly Chloe Vest.  Alana’s favorite colors to work with are neutrals, because so much can be built upon them, and her preferred fabrics include silk and leather, because these go great with embellishments.  Miss Hale’s passion for high fashion propelled her to begin designing, and she believes that the contrast between femininity and edginess seen in her clothing reflects the disparity within her own personality.  It is clear to me that her visions will be understood and accepted incredibly well in today’s fashion world, because I believe that so many women’s personalities contain this same duality.

Keep an eye out for Alana Hale’s line, being sold in the larger LA area and soon to be expanding!  Also check in here at the Society 805 website for updates on where to find her collection once it reaches stores in the 805!

ASVOFF4 Cocktail Preview

By Taylor deDiego
Last Tuesday Diane Pernet, designer, and writer for Elle.com and VogueParis.com, previewed her fourth film entitled "A Shaded View of Fashion Film." The event was held at the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and it was quite spectacular. Not only does Diane have a unique view on fashion, she is also has a great eye for capturing such fashion via film. Diane sat amongst the crowd, taking photos and conversing with the magnificently dressed attendees.

GALLIANO SPRING SUMMER 2012

From Mary Pickford to Mary Poppins, from silent screen to the talkies, Movie Stars inspire a modern new voice at Galliano.
Spring Summer 2012 unveils a new siren – a contemporary twist on signature Galliano with a collection that celebrates an era when women found their voice. Feminine, luxurious, eccentric and individual the Galliano Gal is a unique mix of romantic, innovative nostalgia sprung from a house defined by its craft, creativity, innovation and fantasy. Black and white on screen and cut in organza, georgette and tulle in reality: cream coats, black drape jackets, white lace inserts. Spring Summer plays with shape, technique, soft structuring as detailing includes re-embroidered linen jackets, gazar blazers, ecru blouses styled with Pickford star print pants and two-tone shoes – the Galliano Siren always dances to her own tune.

Soft feminine shapes, long playful pleats, and a confection of colours such as delicate pink cotton candy stripes, blush blues, eau de nils, chocolate and cream. The flirtatious side of Galliano uses fashion and feminine charm as her alibi and you catch a glimpse of this character through the draped georgette blouses, piqué jackets, carefree patchwork to floral embroideries. The soft chiffon Galliano rose adorns her favourite sequin frosted cocktail dresses: a modern mix of blacks and golds, silvers and white.
