Fashion as emotion is something that is important to Anh Volcek when she designs. Each collection is a vignette of her life. The “Breakable” concept for L’une Collection’s Fall 2012/13 is drawn up from her chronic pain and upcoming surgery. “It is the idea of being cut open and the path to healing. I’m creating braces for different parts of the body and playing with transparencies like a voyeuristic x-ray into the body,” says Anh. Her unique signature of molding plastic and glasswork into wearable sculptures is applied to fabrics. She calls it a fashion version of slow food as each piece is carefully crafted. One example is a tissue silk dress dipped in reflective glass, which shines only when a flash is used. “I want to convey the beauty and fragility of being breakable.” This presentation will take place on Wednesday March 13th to open the runway shows for this night.
On the runway on Wednesday, March 13th, Madisonpark Collective will debut for the first time on the runway. Since the brand’s launch in November 2010, owner Trey Alligood had a vision of bringing vintage American-inspired garments to the modern day world. This season will reveal the raw sophistication and everyday functionality of the designs, which allow for a rugged, yet refined look.
One of our own Los Angeles based designers, Skingraft, will be showing as well on March 13th, Skingraft began as an experiment in performance art-inspired fashion and has grown to produce a full ready-to-wear collection for men and women along with ornate one-of-a-kind pieces for the runway. This LA-based designer has been featured recently on some of the most sought after celebrities including Nikki Minaj.
MILA, the eponymous collection by Mila Hermanovski will be showing alongside Madisonpark Collective as well as Skingraft. This collection continues the tradition of being heavily influenced by art and important movements in art history. The AW 2012 collection takes inspiration from the top art of the fifties and later west coast conceptualism. Subtle shifts of colors are explored in simultaneous contrast as a homage to Joseph Albers while ever shifting seams, textures, patterns, and hem lines provide a juxtaposition at the meeting of the planes in the garments honoring the work of John Mclaughlin and Bridget Riley.
Building upon the Spring relaunch back into the market, Octavio Carlin will be showing his Fall/ Winter 2012 collection on Thursday, March 15th. Inspired by streamlined art deco with a slight Egyptian influence, Octavio’s signature elegant style will once again be reflected in his evening gowns and dresses making women feel confident and beautiful from the inside out.
Dubai native, Furne One, will be closing that night with their revolutionary, fashion provocative brand, Amato, which is both visually pleasing as it is shocking. Launching in the United States, his collection is one of the favorite established brands in Dubai with a loyal celebrity and royal following. Furne One’s designs will be unveiled in a sophisticated production where futurism meets Hollywood glamour in a highly anticipated runway gala.
