Milan Fashion Week: Gucci Spring Summer 2016

 By Cassandra Pierre-Louis
One thing that's clear about the Gucci Spring Summer '16 presentation, is that it is a memorable one. Alessandro's collection will stay ingrained in us for his sensitive imagination and meticulous eye. Vintage aesthetics reminiscent of 1950s fashion were the central looks of the collection, dressed in an array of colours with blue and green dominating.  The A-line skirts stole the show, coming in python print, multicoloured pleated stripes and an illustrated world map bordered in Gucci's in-house colours, no less. The collection pleased to our visual sense but also drew us inwardly with Alessandro's use of pastel coloured chiffon, provoking soft tenderness and romance at its best.
Nonetheless we appreciated the designer's tongue in cheek humour, designing almost caricature suits, one in metallic green and another fitting for an ice cream parlour. The over-sized bows and the ties blazed with a lady bug and glittered red lips were not missed either. Quirky, smart, artistic, this was a superb collection.
