Fashion Week LA - Camelia Skikos & Whichkim

Venue: Beachwood Studios
Producers: Concept Los Angeles
Fashion Designers: Camelia Skikos & Whichkim
Season: Fall/Winter 2015

Let me start off by saying that this collection was very visually stunning and well staged, however for the life of me I could not find the words to write about the designs; it is so out of my realm.  So with that in mind I enlisted someone who totally got it,  Billy Bennight wrote this amazing piece on these two designers who came together to create this amazing collection.

Fashion Week LA - Jen Awad

Venue: Beachwood Studios
Producers: Concept Los Angeles
Fashion Designers: Jen Awad
Season: Fall/Winter 2015

I love Jen Awad's disco inspired "Dream Electric" presentation with electric pops of color.
The micro-mini skirts sets with over the knee boots were delightful and sexy as hell.

Also in the collection, Awad had a few embroider looking metallic items such as skinny trousers and a mini skirt.  Closing the presentation of the collection Awad presented two off the shoulder lamè dresses both in silver and gold.

Fashion Week LA - Camila X Castillo

Venue: Beachwood Studios
Producers: Concept Los Angeles
Fashion Designers: Camila X Castillo
Season: Fall/Winter 2015

Camila X Castillo collection "Minimal Lines", inspired by late 60's South American artists including works by Gego & Naum Gabo. I can see the Gego influence in the designs of the intricate details of the strings of the swimsuits which are beautifully done. I do not see the swimwear being mass produced because the detailing involved must be hand-cut making them more suitable as a custom made piece.

Fashion Week LA Is Here Again!

We are getting ready again to start our journey into the realm of Los Angeles during Fashion Week. Its my time to check out the fashion for the upcoming season, and it's the closet we west coasters can get to Fashion Week in the big apple.
The first round of designers we will see will be at the ever cool and hip Concept LA venue. This season we will see Mike Vensel, Camila X Castillo, Elaine Marie, Jen Awad and Camilia Skikos.

Mike Vensel, who is also Concept's co-founder is a  fashion designer, an artist, and a photographer. His designs are known for having a sleek and sexy minimalist aesthetics,  which I am sure being an artist and photographer gives him a different perspective in creating a collection. Vensel 's FW2015 collection "Power" will be revealed this Saturday. www.mikevensel.com

Fashion Week LA - Alexandrino, Mathiasen & JBurgos

Venue: Ace Museum
Producers: Concept Los Angeles
Fashion Designers: Alexandrino, Mathiasen & JBurgos
Season: Spring/Summer 2015

Staff Writer

Concept Los Angeles has always been once of my favorite venues to during attend Fashion Week Los Angeles. There is always eclectic fashionable crowd attending Concept. Once we were inside and made the epic climb up the hilly walkway up to a installation of sorts for shadow play, which seemed to be a hit, judging by the many people making shadow figures. Once we reach the top to the venue after fighting the crowd to get inside, we were seated to watch the only runway presentation of the evening Emily Daccarett. Please click here to read about Emily.  Here are three emerging designers with their informal presentations.

Producers: Concept LA
Fashion Designers: JBurgos, Emily Daccarett, Korovilas & Yoze
Season: Spring/Summer 2014

VIEWS FROM THE FRONT ROW
This was Concept LA first time at the former Smashbox location Quixote Studies. I did not make it to see the first runway show NuVula, bummer.
Yoze
New brand Yoze premiered as the last designer of the evening to walk across the catwalk. Yoze founded by Dr. Davin Enoyoze Odia, is an American womenswear brand designed for a women who is "strong, independent and a pioneer of new ideas". Title after the middle name of its founder, Yoze is designed by Creative Director Miguel Rodriguez, the collection also featured collaboration with LA artist J.T. Burke to develop a collection of prints based on his "Beautiful Again" series.

Yoze's SS2014 collection features an assortment of  silhouettes executed in a pallet of whites, mauves, yellows and gold. Angular dresses in spandex jersey extended to the knee and use abbreviated peplums to nip the waist. In the same way, printed crepe jersey sundress are modernized and layered with short sleeve peplum jackets to enhance  the shoulders and waistline. Raglan jackets in printed satin are over floor-length jersey dresses that fade from mauve to a matching surrealistic golden print. On a side note: Thanks for leaving your material for the media on our seats, I wish more designers would take heed to that bit of professionalism.

Will LA ever be taken seriously in the fashion world?

A WRAP-UP ON LA FASHION WEEK FALL/WINTER 2013 COLLECTIONS

I decided to write things a little different this season after my experience with fashion week in Los Angeles this March. I guess this is the first season that I am a little disappointed with some of the designers and with some of the venue producers.  I sometimes wonder if Los Angeles is taken seriously in the rest of the world as a fashion leader?

I did not do Concept LA this season, mostly due to how it was ran last season. I absolutely love the venue, but hated the wait between shows in the hot sun and did not want to experience that again. (My photographer who is a red head and fair skin did not fair too well in the sun) I did not want to chance it again this season. I am not sure if they improved on that part of the event, if anyone knows if they did I would love a feedback in comments. The runway shows feature the following designers Jen Awad, Nikki Rich, Mike Vensel, B:Scott & Sarah Scott. I did score a few images from the shows.

Concept Los Angeles @Siren Studies-Mike Vensel

Fashion designer Mike Vensel  knows how to dress a woman. I love the silhouettes, how he drapes the curves of the female anatomy. Beautifully.

Concept Los Angeles @Siren Studies-Nami

Los Angeles based designer Sarah Nami Ahn presented her Spring/Summer Collection 2013.  The word on the street is that this was the best show at Concept Los Angeles this season

Concept Los Angeles @Siren Studies - Informal Presentations

Concept Los Angeles first fashion week at their new home Siren Studios on Sunset Blvd, across from Sunset Gower Studios, and yes it was air-conditioned.

 Paul Redmond

Did you ever dream about playing with life size dolls when you were a little girl?  Paul Redmond's informal presentation with his use neoprene rubber to make really cool outfits with paper-dolls cuts with tabs. A very visual presentation, our favorite was the piece with monitor in the dress, unfortunately my Samsung Galaxy decided to take a break, so there is no image of it turned on.

Concept Los Angeles Ace Gallery Fashion Show Fall Winter 2012 Collections

Saturday March 10, 2012

By Shawn Kelly
From the moment I walked into The Concept Los Angeles Ace Gallery, kindly hidden in an area I once called home, I caught a real retro feel, and was pleasantly welcomed by a gentleman kindly escorting me upstairs in a classic vintage elevator.

The galleries featured artist was Mary Corse and I have to admit, was an extra bonus!

The ambiance of it all was art meets chic, and with added fashion exhibits by, Curly-V, Zu Bauen and other LA designers ones need for fashion and art was definitely met in every way!

3:00pm Runway Show: Gypsy Junkies

The vision of a dark angel falling in love with a flower child came across quite clear in the Gypsy Junkie fall winter 2012 collection. Flower silk prints and dark velvet bell-bottoms were some of the collections key components.

I've never been a fan of light colors under-toned with black, however the designers’ touch impressed me...

The Glamazon: By Shawn Kelly

Ok ladies, this up and coming season is going to be full of dark and rich colors, and that includes makeup too. And for hair, think out side of the box. Plats, twist, and pin-up braids are a must have!
This look is straight from the runway!
